My work often circles around themes of spiritual seeking, divine nature, and the 21st Century human
experience—these are subjects I find ineffable and infinitely interesting. Symbolic narratives overlay my primary
choice of subject matter—the portrait—and approach a form of imaginative realism. My subjects often gaze
directly out of the picture plane in my attempt to give both agency to the subject and invitation to the viewer.

Of my many art history influences, medieval art currently informs my work most heavily. I am drawn to its
mystical narratives, bold colors, uncanny architecture, and symbolic storytelling. I cite some medieval work
directly as a means of feeling directly linked to artists of the past.

My process echoes lessons learned from contemporary masters of classical realism as I choose for my work to
rely on the pursuit of craft, technical skill, and beauty.
